1/4 cup grated cabbage
2 tbsp finely chopped coriander (dhania)
1/2 tsp chilli powder
salt to taste

South Indian dal appeis made from1/2 cupurad dal (split black lentils),1/4 cupgrated carrot,1/4 cupgrated cabbage,2 tbspfinelychopped coriander (dhania),1/2 tspchilli powder andsaltto taste. - For making theurad dal and vegetable appe, clean and wash the urad dal 2-3 times in water.
- Soak it in enough water for atleast 2 hours.
- Urad dal after soaking for 2 hours.
- Drain the urad dal. The urad dal will almost double in volume and become soft.
- Keep aside.

- In a mixer put the soaked and drained urad dal.
- Add½ cup of water.
- Blend till smooth.
- In a mixer put the soaked and drained urad dal.
- Add1/4 cupgrated carrot.
- Add1/4 cupgrated cabbage.
- Add2 tbspfinelychopped coriander (dhania).
- Add1/2 tspchilli powder.
- Add salt to taste. We added 1/2tsp salt.
- Mix well.

- Pour 1 tbsp of the batter into each mould.
- Cook on medium heat for 1 minute till the lower surface becomes golden brown.
- Brush little oil on the top of the appe.
- Then turn each appe upside down using a fork and spoon or 2 spoonsso as to cook them from the other side using a little oil.
- Appes are turned over.
- Then brush the top of the appe with oil.
- Keep cooking and turning till appes are done.

I tried this recipe but On shallow frying I found out that the core remains wet. What can I do to ensure that it is cooked from inside

Tarla Dalal    Hi Ekta, Shallow frying will not let the appes cook completely. You have to use the appe mould that you get in the market. Only that will help you get the perfect cooked appes. Do try this recipe and share your review with us. happy Cooking!
